At Vornado, we strive to include environmental best practices as part of our business growth. We have proudly launched a sustainability program in one of our nation's best known towers: 555 California Street.
555 California Street exemplifies Vornado's commitment to sustainable practices through its recycling, reclamation and green cleaning programs. 555 California Street, as well as its adjacent property 315 Montgomery Street, have received Energy Star labels, and in 2011 achieved LEED Certification for Existing Buildings (555 California - LEED-EB Certified; 315 Montgomery - LEED-EB Silver).
ENERGY STAR is a joint program of the U.S. EPA and the U.S. Department of Energy focused on promoting energy efficiency. For commercial buildings, the ENERGY STAR program scores the energy performance of buildings on a 1-100 scale. Facilities that achieve a score of 75 or higher are eligible for the ENERGY STAR award, indicating that they are among the top 25% of facilities in the country for energy performance.
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is an internationally recognized rating system first developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) in March 2000. LEED assesses buildings based on their site characteristics, energy and water consumption, use of materials and resources, and the indoor environmental quality for their occupants. Buildings that have achieved LEED Certification have undergone rigorous evaluation, and demonstrated responsible and environmentally sustainable performance in all rating categories.
